Coffee, why so chic?

I'm not a coffee drinker. My very traditional family maintained that children don't drink coffee and I complied happily after sneaking a sip,when I was 6, from my mum's cup and thought it was disgusting black venom.

Come highschool, particularly the final year with all that studying, I somehow managed to make-do with mostly green tea and the occasional cappuccino (strictly for fancy reasons, like with friends over even more chic cigarettes called "Vogue"). I was just fine without it on a regular basis. But I LOVED the idea of it.

Now , between a very demanding Business Administration curriculum,working part-time, blogging, and trying to, you know, actually have a life, I'm hitting up the coffee machine at school more often, sometimes north of three times a week. An icky love affair, because for 60 eurocents, you get a plastic cup filled with a dark brown coffee undeserving of its name, but with the same chemical properties. I snare at at all the girls brandishing steaming Starbucks cups and I sigh. I'm too much of a stumble-to-school-no-time-to-stop kind of girl, not to mention Starbucks is $$$.Or should I say €€€?

Anyways, the point and inspiration of this post was that coffee is just so chic, non?

What about you? Are you a coffee drinker?

  1. I think peer pressure has a lot to do with it but you don't notice because it's "just" coffee. I mean it's not a hardcore drug or anything. Which I think is wrong, one of my friend's has a coffee a day addiction, we added up her yearly coffee spend and it was shocking. The world how it is now, too, sells us coffee. x hivenn p.s enter my $200 shopbop giveaway?

  3. @Hivenn the world would stop going round without peer pressure. On one hand, if we weren't all so tempted to buy-buy-buy by peer pressure we wouldn't spend so much, but then if we don't spend industries go boom. imagine how much is involved with the simple sale of a cup of coffee from Starbucks, for instance. from advertising, to the rent market, to the manufacturing of the plastic/paper cups, to the cute barista. whether we like it or not, our overpopulated world depends and dies of consumerism.

    @Kate, thank you.

  7. I'm not a coffee drinker because caffeine gives me heartburn, and plus caffeine really affects me. It doesn't take a lot to affect me. Great pictures by the way!

  8. First off, I got to say: loving the pictures.

    I'm a coffee drinker. I used to hate the taste of it. Not sure if I enjoy it even now, after drinking coffee for 6 years. For me it started off at work. I used to work at a hospital (I'm a physical therapist), we spent our breaks with other nurses and doctors in the coffee room talking and drinking the bitter liquid. It was more of a habit, almost a social ritual. I couldn't imagine a break without coffee. (it's better than cigarrettes, thank god)

    I never drink coffee at home. We don't have a moccamaster, I don't even keep instant coffee in my cupboard. But even now I'm sitting at work with a double espresso in my hand.. :D

    Twisted, isn't it?

    Kisses !

  9. I love it!! One black americano every morning no matter what! i get up an extra 10 minutes early so I ALWAYS have time. But one in the morning is always enough for me, some days I pick up a caramel machiato at starbucks, but not to for a fix, simply for pleasure. Everyone should try this drink i promise you will looove it!

  22. your blog is really good, i like reading your option. like the post about karlie kloss- she does look very thin, almost too thin. I think it's great that she works out and maybe her body is so skinny because of workout, not because she eats little. we can never really know if she's starving her body or eating healthy.
    i'm a coffee drinker and also love pictures of coffee. i'm not addicted luckily. i drink it, when i feel like i need an energy boost (which is most mornings) but i can easily go for example a week without it.
